#34 Closed Alpha 6 Starts on September 24 – Early Access in 2027

Gods, Death & Reapers is coming to Early Access in February 2027!

Reapers, we know many of you have been waiting for this and we’d like to inform you that we have taken the decision to move the Early Access launch to February 2027. Mindful of our community-driven development approach, we wanted to create more room for playtesting and development in order to ensure a smooth Early Access launch with the light of your feedback.

We’d like to once again thank you for your incredible support since day one and for the feedback that has continuously helped us shape the game. Early Access is not the end of development. As we progress, we’ll continue improving and fine-tuning the game based on your feedback. You can check the full roadmap here.

As we move toward Early Access, we’ll keep hosting playtests to keep you in the loop, give you a chance to experience our progress firsthand and hear what you think.

And that brings us to our next playtest, starting September 24.

Your next quest awaits.

Closed Alpha 6 Starts on September 24 and I’m once again demanding your presence in the afterlife, Reapers. My creators have made significant changes since the last Closed Alpha, and they require your attention.

I will now allow them to tell you what’s new in the afterlife while I prepare to open the portals.

— Death

The highly anticipated Closed Alpha 6 is coming soon and this time around, we’ve spent some time implementing some of your most requested features, including the Party System, a summoner archetype weapon and Soulbound Items! Yep, you heard it right! In Closed Alpha 6, we’re testing items that won’t disappear upon death, alongside many other new features and iterations.

Playtest Schedule

Starts: September 24th — 10 AM CEST / 1 AM PDT / 4 AM EDT / 5 AM BRT / 3 PM ICT

Ends: September 28th — 6 PM CEST / 9 AM PDT / 12 PM EDT / 1 PM BRT / 11 PM ICT

Playtest slots are limited and if you haven’t done so, sign up for the Wolcen Studio Playtest Program here.

Now, let’s dive into what awaits you in Closed Alpha 6.

Soulbound Items

Over the past playtests, one of the recurring topics has been the fact that your items would be lost upon death. While your backpack offers a secure stash, we also mentioned that we planned to introduce an insurance system as we progressed.

However, we heard your feedback and decided to take another look at itemization and looting. With that in mind, we’re excited to introduce Soulbound Items, which will be tested for the first time in Closed Alpha 6.

Equipped items will now be Soulbound and will not be dropped by players upon death. This is an intended change and should allow us to build more meaningful progression, allowing you to invest in your gear over time. Looting will also be affected by this change; items can no longer be looted; you need to craft them and level them up as you play. You will also be able to customize their stats on each individual piece of gear as they craft them

We know this is a significant change that will affect your gameplay experience and we expect it to be a major topic of discussion during this playtest. Once you’ve had a chance to try it, we encourage you to share your feedback and thoughts with us.

Become a Beast Master: New Summoner Weapon

Double Axe is a ranged weapon that allows you to command powerful beasts alongside its arsenal of abilities. Summon a Wolf, Raven, or Boar using the respective skill slot, each offering unique passive and active abilities that can shape your strategy and adapt to different situations. To summon Wolf, Raven or Boar, you need to have its respective sigil attached to the weapon, and if no sigil is attached to your weapon, you’ll summon Wisp, the default beast. You can only summon one beast at a time.

Designed to overwhelm your enemies through relentless pressure and versatility, Double Axe is easy to pick up but difficult to master. Its beast companions unlock multiple playstyles, rewarding those who learn when and how to unleash their power.

Wolf

Summon a fierce Wolf to hunt your prey.

Passive: Grants an aura that increases your damage and life steal.
Active: Wolf leaps toward your target location, damaging and rooting enemies caught.

Raven

Summon a Raven to stalk your foes from above.

Passive: Increased vision range.
Active: Raven dives toward the target location, striking and blinding enemies it hits.

Boar

Summon a mighty Boar to charge into battle at your side.

Passive: Absorbs a portion of the damage you receive.
Active: Boar charges in a straight line toward the target location, damaging and knocking back enemies.

Wisp

Your default companion. If no Sigils are attached to your weapon, Wisp will answer your call.

Passive: Grants increased movement speed.
Active: Periodically attacks nearby enemies.

Home of the Norse Gods: Asgard

With Closed Alpha 6, we’re delighted to introduce you Gods, Death & Reapers’ third map Asgard. Once the sacred home of the Norse gods, now lies in ruin and decay in their absence. Halls stand broken, monuments scarred and rival factions wage war across the realm for you to discover, fight and restore the order.

New Faction: Chosen

The Chosen – Einherjar, are Odin’s chosen warriors, the greatest champions of Midgard who fell in the glorious battle and were brought to Valhalla to serve as his elite guard. Now, with their god dead, they have become fanatical protectors of Asgard, determined to preserve his realm and restore him at any cost.

Party System & Friend Management

As promised, the Party System is coming in Closed Alpha 6! You’ll now be able to wander the afterlife alongside your friends, fighting mobs and other Reapers together.

Party matchmaking will only match you against other parties to ensure fair play and it also comes with significant changes to how you progress, loot and gain experience. When playing as a party, the game will offer you elevated difficulty as well as elevated rewards. Experience is now shared in a radius and also based on participation, so we strongly encourage parties to stick together.

2v2, 3v3 Arenas & Training Area

With the Party System coming in, you’ll also be able to duel 2v2 or 3v3 in Arenas. Fight for glory and bragging rights!

Another feature many of you asked was a dedicated space to test weapons, abilities and different combos. We’re happy to confirm that a Training Area will be available in your Sanctuary in Closed Alpha 6. Whether you want to experiment with different weapons and combos or simply unwind after a hard-fought match, the choice is yours.

Loot Distribution Improvements

We’re working towards creating a clearer way for players to have more agency over the loot they find on maps. This will come in the form of dedicated areas for specific types of loot, which will be visible to everyone on the world map, allowing you to track down those pesky stones more reliably.

Combat Improvements

As with each Closed Alpha we aim to make the game more responsive and fun. On top of the newly added Double Axes weapon we also dove back into our combat system to remove any clunkiness or awkward projectile we could since Closed Alpha 5 and we’re curious to hear how the improved combat feels.

Questline Expansion & NPCs

Ratatoskr has long been the only friendly face guiding you on your adventures through Norse Realms. We’re now expanding the cast of characters you’ll encounter as you uncover what happened to Odin and his kin!

Closed Alpha 6 is starting on September 24 and if you haven’t already, be sure to sign up for the next playtest through the Wolcen Studio Playtest Program.

If you signed up before, your registration remains valid for all upcoming playtests and we’ll send more invites soon.

If you were a playtester before, your access remains valid. No need to take further action!
